In Belgium and The Netherlands, this style of wheat beer (known as witbier, or biere blanche) predominates. We don’t filter this beer, so the suspended proteins and yeast help the beer to look hazy, or white, particularly when cold. Before hops were used for beer making, many other flavourings were used, and in this style we use coriander and orange to add an extra flavour dimension. These fruity and spicy notes complement the natural flavours made by the fermenting yeast.
